HONOLULU – The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Design and Construction will begin erosion control improvements along Moanalua Road near Pearlridge Elementary School on October 19, 2026. Construction is expected to continue through March 2027, pending any unforeseen conditions.

The project, awarded to Royal Contracting Company, aims to repair and restore eroded ground slopes by implementing erosion control improvements. Planned work includes removing sediment from slope benches, restoring and hardening concrete ditches, clearing overgrown vegetation and trees, and reinforcing slopes with geosynthetic matting.

Construction will occur on weekdays, excluding weekends and holidays, and will impact Moanalua Road and driveway access to Pearlridge Elementary School and Pearlridge Community Park. Work will occur from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Motorists, pedestrians, and residents are advised to use caution and anticipate possible delays during construction. Please note the following impacts:

Lane closure: The westbound right lane of Moanalua Road—from the Pearlridge Elementary School driveway to Pono Street—will be closed weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (excluding holidays). Drivers are encouraged to observe posted signs and notices and to use eastbound lanes to minimize delays near the project site.

Sidewalk closure: The mauka-side sidewalk on Moanalua Road in front of the work site will be closed weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (excluding holidays) for the duration of the project. Pedestrians will be detoured to the makai-side sidewalk.
